Huckabee: Hispanics Offer U.S. 'Second Chance'

As I ponder the chances of Huckabee in the general election, I notice that he holds some views that would make him very popular, not only with the white evangelical community, but also in the hispanic/minority community as well.

Huckabee got nearly 50% of the African-American vote in Arkansas. And his views on the influx of Hispanics in the USA would make him very popular with them as well. You see, Huckabee is definitely a "seal the border" kind of guy. He wants the border shut off from illegals coming in the United States unfairly.

But here's the interesting and exciting thing about where Huckabee stands on the immigrants who are already here:

"One of the great challenges facing us is that we do not commit the same mistakes with our growing Hispanic population that we did with African Americans 150 years ago and beyond. We're still paying the price for the pathetic manner in which this country handled that,

"I think frankly the Lord is giving us a second chance to do better than we did before," Huckabee said." Huckabee said at a meeting of the Political Animals Club in Little Rock.
Many people might take these comments the wrong way... but it is very clear to me what he is saying. Basically, "They're here. And as long as they're here, let's show them the compassion that we failed to show African-Americans in the days of slavery."

This is the correct view, especially from a Christian standpoint, I believe. True compassion. But it is also sure to make much of the Hispanic population look very favorable towards Huckabee. And like it or not, we NEED big numbers of the Hispanic population and other minority groups to vote for us (Republicans) in the general election, or else we will continue to lose because of a growing hostile population of immigrants.

Huckabee's compassion for all people is clearly evident. But his respect for the rule of law is very apparent also...

But these factors which I have touched upon make Huckabee the BEST Republican in the general election, because Hispanics are looking for candidates who understand that they are simply looking for a better life. Huckabee understands this, but also knows that the border MUST be sealed and under control.
