Democrats Fear Huckabee

The far-left website DailyKos.com did some live-blogging from the Republican debate on PBS at the historically black Morgan College. Many liberal democrats left comments on the blog that indicate a very interesting fact: They fear Mike Huckabee, because they know he can win a general election against any of the democrats.

Here are some fascinating comments from democrats about Huckabee:

Geez, I hope somebody becomes front runner quick ...before Huckabee takes the opportunity. We are screwed if he's their nom.

by Geotpf on Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 07:35:33 PM PDT
... Plus, I kind of like Mike Huckabee. I don't agree with him on a whole lot but I like the guy. :)

by daria g on Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 06:12:38 PM PDT
Huckabee worries me. He really seems like a nice, likeable guy to me. I don't know if that's because he really is a nice likeable guy or he's just much better at bullsh*tting than most Republicans, but either way, I think he's very dangerous.

But for some unknown reason, other Republicans seem to hate him [nope, we all love him!]. Maybe he's not enough of a jerk for them? I don't know, but I guess I should be glad. I really would have thought he'd be their best hope. Their frontrunners are pathetic.

I am telling you if Mike Huckabee were the RNC nominee it would be scary. I live in Memphis and what Huckabee said is true. He can pull in Democratic votes.

by TennesseeGurl on Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 06:08:11 PM PDT
huckabee is strong. i'm glad we don't have to face him next november; huckabee could be the potentially highest repuke vote getter BUT the big four have kept him down; lucky for us

by pogoalwaysright16 on Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 07:08:23 PM PDT
Huckabee sounds sensible about poverty. Sounds almost like JE for a minute. Thank God the RNC isn't smart enough to elect the man.
[you have no idea. just wait and see!]
Huckabee is great at this.

He comes off as honest, caring, smart, and his populist viewpoints won over many in the crowd. If he is thier nominee, he will win, and I would have a hard time being too pissed off about it.

Of course, Republican voters in general will never elect him.
[That's what you think!]

New Heights for Huckabee!

Rasmussen Poll
Fred Thompson: 24%
Rudy Giuliani: 22%
Mitt Romney: 12%
John McCain: 9%
Mike Huckabee: 7%
In the latest Rasmussen poll, Mike Huckabee is now at 7% among all Republican nominees nationally. This is the highest Mike Huckabee has polled ever since he joined the race. Clearly his campaign is still on the upward trend, as these new poll numbers indicate.

John McCain is now at 9%. Yes, you read correctly, NINE percent. If John McCain is considered a top tier candidate with only 9% of support, then Mike Huckabee deserves that title as well at only two percentage points under him.

At the top of the pack is Fred Thompson with 24% and then Rudy Giuliani at 22%. I don't understand why Fred is polling so high -- after all, he refuses to debate and let his ideas be heard. So far he has shown us all that his campaign is way too calculating and will only appear in settings they can control and predict. How sad that so many conservatives are falling for this. But the good news is there's still time for them to catch on.

So these numbers are encouraging for Huckabee and all of his supporters. He is on the rise. No matter what you think about his money and fundraising numbers, his support is growing and people are picking him as their candidate.

NOTE: In the Rasmussen report I linked to above, it says "Mike Huckabee now earns support from 7% of Likely Republican Primary Voters." In every past report, it said something to the effect of, "Mike Huckabee remains the leader of the 2nd-tier with X%." It looks like this report is now recognizing that Huckabee is making significant enough gains in order to be removed from being called 2nd-tier.

Huckabee expresses embarrassment over the other candidates not showing up

Huckabee Gives Another Stellar Debate Performance!

Sadly, the focus of most of the news stories will be on who wasn't there rather than on who was. The debate held tonight at the historically black Morgan State University in Baltimore was a good one, especially for Mike Huckabee -- as he again churned out intelligent and clear responses.

But the news so far has been solely focused on the no-shows of the debate, McCain, Thompson, Giuliani and Romney. Huckabee said of them,

“I’m embarrassed for our party, and I’m embarrassed for those who did not come,” said Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas. “Because there’s long been a divide in this country. And it doesn’t get better when we don’t show up.”
Yes, it's quite dumb of the so-called front runners to not show up, especially with the GOP's lackluster support from minorities. But how about instead of letting the no-shows representing the GOP, giving that honor to those who did show up!?

Drop by Kevin Tracy's blog and read his analysis of the debate (he attended).

It's Crunch Time for the Huckabee Campaign!

The fundraising quarter ends Sept. 30th, which means Governor Huckabee has only a few days left to pull in as much money as he can in order to report a solid financial figure for his campaign. This is crucial to show that his campaign has gotten legs and is growing every month.

If you like Mike Huckabee and know that he would be the best President, then please....

Richard Land Snubs Huckabee

Justin over at Justin's Thoughts has a very good post about Dr. Richard Land's snubbing of Huckabee. Land is a well known southern baptist, and for him to snub Huckabee in favor of Thompson, who refuses to talk about his faith, is just absurd.

Anyway, head on over to Justin's blog and have a good read.

Huckabee speaks at a Baptist University!

On Sept. 24th, Huckabee spoke at Ouachita Baptist University. Baptist Press has a great article on it that you can read by clicking here.

Huckabee spoke about how God designed us all to be creative through different forms of art:

"The one cultural norm that transcends all of the generations, all languages is the transmission of our culture through our art forms. It is the one way in which one generation speaks to the next," Huckabee said.

"... It makes perfect sense when you think that even in the way that God designed us, we were designed to be creative. After all, if He is the Creator and He has made a creation and we have been created in His image, it would be the logical conclusion that in His image, since He's a creative God, that part of what He has created in us is a creativity that ought to be stimulated and enhanced and somehow not put aside," he added.

Why You Should Support Mike Huckabee

Former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee is an inspiration and a rarity.

He is articulate and well versed on all of the important issues. He is a conservative on all fronts, especially where it counts the most: social issues. He is pro-life, pro-marriage of one man and one woman for life, and he believes in the family values that make our nation great.

An ordained minister and former pastor of a Church, Mike Huckabee knows people. He knows their problems of every day life. He knows their struggles of all sorts. Combined with his ten years as Governor, this makes him the most qualified, as well as the most understanding of people and their struggle.

I created "Huckabee Hound" because of these things; because of Huckabee's inspiring run for President. I have a great hope that people will see what so many of us already see: that Mike Huckabee is the best candidate running for President right now. We as conservatives see the problems the so-called leading candidates have.

Rudy Giuliani is simply not a strong conservative. Whether it's on abortion, gun-rights, or even gay marriage, Rudy simply doesn't seem to even care about these issues very passionately at all. He is running on his 9/11 persona primarily. That is not good enough.

Mitt Romney similarly has problems with regard to abortion issues. He is a political opportunist, and says whatever he can to gain political points. These are not qualities we want in our Republican candidate.

John McCain and Fred Thompson, while good men, are simply uninspiring, unenergetic candidates that simply don't have the fire we need in our candidate.

There is only one viable and true conservative in this race. And that man is Governor Mike Huckabee. Please consider Mr. Huckabee as your choice for the Republican candidate.

Huckabee Wows the NRA!

Mike Huckabee addressed the NRA today, along with the other top-tier candidates. And according to a National Review Online article, Huckabee got the biggest applause and showed he knows exactly what he is talking about when it comes to what the 2nd amendment is really all about.

From the article:

Fred wowed 'em, the crowd loved McCain's rejoinder to the Code Pink protester, Mitt Romney's video went over well, and Rudy Giuliani earned their respect. But the guy who absolutely looked the most at home before the NRA today was probably Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee continues to show his amazing competence on all of the key issues that conservatives care about most. He is an outstanding communicator, he is correct on all the social issues, the 2nd amendment, taxes, etc. He is a consistent, strong conservative who needs everyone to rally around him.

The end of the National Review article said it best when it comes to Huckabee's performance:
Of course, Huckabee speaking masterfully and wowing a crowd of gun-owners isn't really shocking. If laughs and applause could be converted to campaign donations, Huckabee might be leading this race.
UPDATE: Based upon the NRA crowd's reaction to the candidates, Jim Geraghty from the NRO graded the candidates' performance at the event. His grades were as follows:

Mike Huckabee - A+
Fred Thompson - A
John McCain - B+
Rudy Giuliani - B+
Mitt Romney - C+ (video presentation)
Bill Richardson - C+ (video presentation)

Bill O'Reilly, It's Time to Give Huckabee a Chance

Newt Gingrich recently appeared on The O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel. You can see the video below. During the interview, Bill O'Reilly asked Gingrich about the Presidential race, and Newt said he likes Huckabee and thought he was one of the few candidates that could beat Hillary Clinton in a straight up race. O'Reilly went on to say that Huckabee wouldn't get the nomination because "..they don't know him, they just don't know Huckabee, that's the problem."

Well, since Bill admitted on the show that Huckabee was a "good guy and very smart" but that he can't win because people "just don't know him," then I think every single Huckabee supporter out there should send an email to Bill O'Reilly at:

oreilly@foxnews.com

and suggest that he have Huckabee on the program, in order to give America the chance to "get to know him" as he claimed was Huckabee's biggest hurdle.

If Bill thinks Huckabee is a good guy and smart, then he should give Americans a chance to know him by interviewing him. Let's tell him that. Email his show ASAP.

Huckabee is Different

More and more people seem to be catching on that Mike Huckabee's appeal goes far beyond just religious conservatives. Over and over I am seeing people from all over the political spectrum heap praise on Huckabee.

Recently, a posting on GetReligion.org takes a look at why Huckabee is getting so much good coverage in the media:

Huckabee is getting some unusual coverage from many different media outlets. His humor and religion are mixing together in a not-so-unusual way, at least outside of politics in the last couple of decades, and the media’s picking up on it. Is Huckabee, in his efforts to be the evangelical right’s new political leader, changing the image of the group? Or is he some kind of exception to the rule in the eyes of the media?...

The big question journalists should be asking, as they seem to bask in awe of this folksy politician from Arkansas (dêjà vu, anyone?), is whether Huckabee is really that unusual for his political base. Whether Huckabee represents a changed evangelical right or just a different side of the group is still undetermined, and journalists should not assume either conclusion is correct.
Huckabee is definitely an exceptional political leader. He represents all of America, not only a certain group of people. And that's what American Presidents should be doing. But at the same time his religious convictions seem staggeringly strong. That's why I love this guy so much. He has unwavering religious beliefs, but somehow doesn't let those stand in the way of connecting with people from all walks of life.

And the Winner is...... Huckabee!

Yesterday was the "Values Voter" debate, where the focus was primarily on social issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc. The so-called "front-runners" decided they didn't need to show up -- apparently taking the Christian conservative vote for granted. Hopefully the Christian conservative voters will make them regret their decision and all coalesce around Huckabee.

After the debate was over, a straw poll was taken of several hundred conservative delegates selected by the organizers of the event -- in order to bring a consensus around one candidate by the conservative crowd. And I'm sure you know who won the vote...

Mike Huckabee was the clear and overwhelming winner of the vote, with 63% of all votes tallied. With such a large victory, there needs to be a consistent and clear endorsement of Huckabee by the Christian conservative leaders in this country. If they fail to do that, then they are selling out all of the precious Christian values they stand on, as the "front-runners" are all problematic on social issues. They need to make their voice heard, and the debate last night was a positive sign that now is the time, and Huckabee is the one.

Huckabee: Hispanics Offer U.S. 'Second Chance'

As I ponder the chances of Huckabee in the general election, I notice that he holds some views that would make him very popular, not only with the white evangelical community, but also in the hispanic/minority community as well.

Huckabee got nearly 50% of the African-American vote in Arkansas. And his views on the influx of Hispanics in the USA would make him very popular with them as well. You see, Huckabee is definitely a "seal the border" kind of guy. He wants the border shut off from illegals coming in the United States unfairly.

But here's the interesting and exciting thing about where Huckabee stands on the immigrants who are already here:

"One of the great challenges facing us is that we do not commit the same mistakes with our growing Hispanic population that we did with African Americans 150 years ago and beyond. We're still paying the price for the pathetic manner in which this country handled that,

"I think frankly the Lord is giving us a second chance to do better than we did before," Huckabee said." Huckabee said at a meeting of the Political Animals Club in Little Rock.
Many people might take these comments the wrong way... but it is very clear to me what he is saying. Basically, "They're here. And as long as they're here, let's show them the compassion that we failed to show African-Americans in the days of slavery."

This is the correct view, especially from a Christian standpoint, I believe. True compassion. But it is also sure to make much of the Hispanic population look very favorable towards Huckabee. And like it or not, we NEED big numbers of the Hispanic population and other minority groups to vote for us (Republicans) in the general election, or else we will continue to lose because of a growing hostile population of immigrants.

Huckabee's compassion for all people is clearly evident. But his respect for the rule of law is very apparent also...

But these factors which I have touched upon make Huckabee the BEST Republican in the general election, because Hispanics are looking for candidates who understand that they are simply looking for a better life. Huckabee understands this, but also knows that the border MUST be sealed and under control.

Huckabee Rocks the Vote

Mike Huckabee was recently featured in a cover story for Making Music magazine. Please read below!

Mike Huckabee is a busy man. Since announcing his intention to run for President of the United States this past January, the former Arkansas governor’s life has been a whirlwind of interviews, debates, speaking engagements, and fundraising events. But no matter where the campaign trail takes him, one thing is always sure to follow—his beloved bass guitar. Making music is a passion for Huckabee, one he says he can’t live without.

“I think music is such a vital part of life,” he explains. “For me, making music is a way to get out of my normal routine and do something creative. It also gives me a chance to live the fantasy that was never quite fulfilled, the dream of being a professional musician.”

Dreaming Big

That dream began in 1966 in Hope, Arkansas, when Huckabee, then 11 years old, received his first electric guitar as a Christmas gift. Fascinated by everything music had to offer him, he practiced constantly, emulating his idols—The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Grand Funk Railroad. And as his playing ability grew, so did his confidence. In fact, he now credits playing music with giving him the strength to overcome an almost crippling shyness.

“The first time I played on a stage was in the 7th grade, at the junior high school in Hope,” he recalls. “As hard as some people might find this to believe now, I was a very bashful child. But I realized that if I wanted to be a musician, I was going to have to get up in front of people and play. Music has had a huge impact on my ability to do what I’m doing now.” ...

Fred "The Chicken" Thompson Tells Huckabee "NO" to Debate!

Thanks to OK For Huckabee for the alert on this.

Fred Thompson's Communication Director Todd Harris had this to say about Huckabee's debate challenge:

“We have the greatest respect for Gov. Huckabee and respect his desire to elevate the discourse in this campaign. But there are nine people running for the GOP nomination and an arbitrary pairing of just two of them does a disservice to the voters. We will push hard for Lincoln-Douglas style debates once we get into the General Election, when there are only two candidates running.” Read the article on the Brody File
In other words, Fred Thompson is a chicken who is afraid of real debate. Here's why this debate would have been good:

If Fred Thompson was serious about his desire for a substantive debate, this could have set the standard for other debates in the campaign. It would show people just how ridiculous those thirty-second to one minute sound bites really are. Yes, there are nine candidates, but it's absurd to have all nine of them on stage in an hour and a half debate, talking about 10 different subjects. How in-depth can you get like that? If Fred wanted to elevate the discourse in the campaign, he could have accepted this Lincoln-Douglas style debate proposal from Huckabee and actually showed WHY this kind of debate is so much better than the other circus-style debates. But alas, he has failed to lead by example, because he apparently knows he can't compete with Huckabee's in-depth knowledge on the relevant issues of our country.

Thanks for showing the country that you have no real desire to elevate the debates in this country Fred. Heck, you can't even find the courage to participate in the debates as they are now, avoiding them by announcing your candidacy one day after they are held. Why should any of us have thought that Fred was actually going to sit down and talk about the issues in depth when he can't even do it in a shallow manner?

Mike Huckabee's Letter to Fred Thompson Has Over 2,000 Co-Signers!

Gov Huckabee's letter to Fred Thompson agreeing to a Lincoln-Douglas styled debate, as Fred said he wanted, now has over 2,000 co-signers. That is a pretty large number, and I think it goes to show that people are really looking for substance in debates, rather than small sound bites which prove to be pretty useless.

Fred Thompson said he wanted a debate of substance, one-on-one, and Huckabee is saying let's go. And Fred can't make the excuse that Huckabee is irrelevant. After all, Huckabee leads Thompson in some key states like Iowa and South Carolina New Hampshire.

So is Fred going to ignore and snub Huckabee, or will he schedule this debate style that he himself asked for? The right thing to do is to schedule the debate as soon as possible.

If you want to help make this happen, show your support by co-signing the letter by CLICKING HERE. Also, if you have a blog or web site, post a topic about it. Fred Thompson needs to feel the pressure to respond, or else he won't.

We need substance in debates. Otherwise, we can't ever really know where they stand on issues with any substance.

Brownback Needs to Pack it Up and Go Home.

The Kansas Senator is a respectable man. He is a smart man. What Brownback is apparently not, though, is a smart enough to pack up his bags and go back to the Senate man.

Since the Iowa straw poll, his campaign has been virtually invisible, and his poll numbers have literally been 0%, in key states like Iowa. Brownback doesn't have a shred of a chance to win the nomination. Sorry, it just is not going to happen.

The online news site Kansascity.com has an article laying out Brownback's free fall to the very bottom of the polls. He has virtually no media attention and no endorsements since the Iowa straw poll. His fund-raising must also be at a stand-still.

From the article:

“He seems almost to have disappeared since the straw poll, which certainly doesn’t help him at all,” Dennis Goldford, a politics professor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, said about the senator from Kansas.

“I’m just not hearing any buzz regarding much of anything regarding Senator Brownback right now,” said David Overholtzer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, co-chairman of the Pottawattamie County GOP. “For Brownback, I would think it’s got to be close to being over with in regard to Iowa.”
Meanwhile, Huckabee is surging like no one could have ever imagined (except us Huckabee nuts of course! haha):
Big crowds in New Hampshire. Appearances on “Fox News Sunday,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Bill Maher’s program on HBO and Stephen Colbert’s show on Comedy Central. Big profiles in the big papers. And best — big bumps in the polls.
Huckabee is headed to the top. It will be historic. Jump on the train, and support Mike Huckabee for President!

Fred Thompson is Opening a K-Mart next to Wal-Mart!

I read the funniest quote today from Huckabee in this article by REUTERS News. In it, Huckabee said regarding Fred Thompson:

"He had a opportunity to come in the race in June -- that would have been a bad time for me," Huckabee said. "Now he's coming in at a time when my stock is rising. It's almost like he opened a K-Mart next to Wal-Mart."
This is a great point by Huckabee. Thompson could have came in the race earlier and took the air out of Huckabee's sail. Instead, he waited, and waited, and waited.... and then Huckabee finally got noticed for the genuine, consistent, outstanding conservative candidate that he is.

Sorry Fred, but you know what they say, you snooze, you lose!

ALERT! Mike Huckabee has written a letter to Fred Thompson accepting his idea of having a 90 minute one-on-one debate. On Huck's official website blog, he posted the letter and has asked every person who would like to see the debate happen sign the letter by posting a comment to the blog posting. CLICK HERE to read the letter and sign the posting. Let Fred know we expect him to hold his end of the bargain and schedule this debate!

Huckabee as Vice President? No Way!

The New York Times Blog has a posting talking about Huckabee as a possible Vice Presidential candidate. While that should be a flattering notion to Huckabee in one sense, in another it is a slap in the face. When someone says that Huckabee is a good VP choice, what they are really saying is they don't think he has a chance at the general nomination of President. Mike Huckabee clearly has the consevrative credentials to make it to the very top. He has everything we need in a candidate.

As Huckabee often says, he is not running to come in second place. He's running for the gold medal. Anything other than gold would be a disappointment. But with Huckabee's surge in some state polls like Iowa and New Hampshire, as well as his slow but steady climb in the Republican national polls, I think he is on the track to go all the way and take the victory. This isn't about how long your name has been out there, it's about who has the ability and leadership to unite our divided nation and bring this country back to a compassionate, strong, vibrant nation. Mike Huckabee is that man. Make no mistake about it.

Huckabee - The Best Republican to Beat Hillary

There's so much talk about who would be the best match-up to the presumed democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. First of all, we need someone with a sharp contrast to her:

"Quite frankly, Americans are going to look at a contest where there's contrast. That's what I bring to the race, someone who can contrast in terms of philosophy and record, but also who's going to be able to challenge her on key fundamental issues like education and health care," Huckabee said.
We also need someone who has a magnetic personality, and who can speak in a simple, clear way that regular people like us can understand and appreciate. Huckabee fits both descriptions.

But we also need someone who can appeal to the other side. Huckabee's views on education, taxes, the environment, health care, etc. are all things that many reasonable democrats could easily rally around! That's what makes Huckabee such a unique, remarkable candidate.

But Huckabee also has a very strong and very conservative ideology. His extremely strong stance on second amendment gun rights, the pro-life issue, traditional marriage, religious and family values, etc. make him a strong candidate for any conservative.
"Hillary is a strong, strong candidate, much stronger than a lot of Republicans want to accept," Huckabee said. "But the reality is that if we put someone up whose views on some of the issues that rally our base don't rally our base, then we're going to be in big trouble."
Huckabee is the true consistent conservative in this race.

If you want a candidate who can actually beat Hillary Clinton in the general election, then I strongly urge you to support Mike Huckabee, who has a real shot at this nomination. If you want to do your part, then go ahead and make a financial donation of any size to his website www.MikeHuckabee.com

UPDATE: Here is the video of Huckabee talking about Hillary Clinton and his contrast to her (it's the last question he is asked), Fred Thompson and the Presidential race, and some other issues on ABCNews with George Stephanopoulos.

Fred Thompson is a Chicken!

I respect Fred Thompson as a Republican and a conservative. However, I cannot respect his decision to officially declare his candidacy one day after the New Hamphire Republican Debate to be televised on the Fox News channel September 5th. The reason Thompson chose Sept. 6th to declare his campaign is so that he wouldn't have to participate in the debate with all the other candidates. That is cowardly, there's no other way to put it.

If that weren't chicken enough, he is also planning to run a 30 second television advertisement during the Republican debate that he will not be in. He wants the audience of the debate, but he is too chicken to actually participate in it. What a disappointing road to go down.

The New Hampshire GOP Chair says Fred was invited over two months ago, but they never heard anything from his campaign. "They are clearly trying to avoid this specific event," he said.

Mike Huckabee has always been the first person to attend events that might not be friendly towards him. He was the first candidate to accept the YouTube Debate, and he isn't afraid to take risks. Fred on the other hand, is way too calculating and hesitent, and I believe that will be one of his major downfalls.
